Position Summary
The Senior Buyer is a member of the Materials team at Zoetis and will work with our team to establish a secure supply chain for complex components and assemblies in a highly customized product offering. He/she will develop strategic sourcing strategies, driving globalization of sourced products, reducing cost through various materials lead-time and cost reduction strategies, and ensuring high service level for both manufacturing operations and field service parts. This individual should possess strong analytical and organizational skills to perform both strategic and tactical purchasing functions required to support the needs of a growing organization. Experience in working with third party Contract Manufacturers is a plus. Working with Engineering, Inventory, Planning and Manufacturing, this position will participate in the development of the supply chain in support of all material activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual should be able to cultivate and maintain positive supplier relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze MRP data to ensure appropriate stocking levels are achieved
- Participation in engineering change process, transition management (obsolescence, updated material specifications, etc.), support on analyzing BOM usage accuracy, and knowledge of technical specification / mechanical & electrical drawings
- Work with distribution to monitor usage rates and quality issues, as well as analyzing and adjusting safety stock levels as needed to optimize material flow
- Work with Document Control and Engineering to maintain master data within MRP and purchasing system.
- Work with Manufacturing and Inventory leads to determine appropriate inventory levels, taking into account cost, storage, vendor, quality, usage rate, and lead-time considerations. Monitor inventory levels, communicate variances, and adjust accordingly
- Develop a "buy" plan, including all materials required to support the production plan
- Participate in the continuous improvement of the SAP MRP system, planning, purchasing and quality applications.
- Support the development and implementation of sourcing strategies, support manufacturing operations, and negotiate contracts and supply agreements for assigned commodities & services in collaboration with other functional business departments
- Work with Quality to ensure suppliers meet quality requirements and applicable regulatory requirements by initiating appropriate action when supplier quality or compliance deficiencies are identified
- Continuously improve the performance of the materials supply base by supporting the use of supplier management tools such as the supplier report card and commercial meetings
- Be the primary point of contact for assigned material, component, and assembly suppliers
- Execute purchase orders to support the MRP plan with component suppliers, third party manufacturing suppliers, and sub-assembly providers
- Communicate supply vulnerabilities and implement plans to ensure continuity of supply
- Manage commercial relationships to ensure reliable supply and appropriate resolution of any disputes that arise related to supply
- Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, ethical practices and adherence to relevant laws and regulations
- Solid understanding of analytical measurement tools as well as an understanding of accounting and financial analysis
- Some domestic travel required (5-10%)
Education and Experience
- BA/BS with at least 5-8 years of experience
- A good understanding of the Manufacturing environment / experience of working closely within Manufacturing sites
- An understanding of GMP and the Quality standards required in a Diagnostics business
- Experience in diagnostics or medical devices procurement/manufacturing.
- Firsthand working knowledge of strategic sourcing methodology required. Technical knowledge and expertise preferred.
- Nationally recognized professional certification a plus (C.P.S.M. - Certified Professional in Supply Management)
Technical Skills
- SAP experience required; specifically the usage of T-Codes.
- Ariba experience preferred.
- Numerate, used to working in Excel, with an analytical skillset capable of both identifying and quantifying cost savings.
- Self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude
- Relevant procurement experience i.e. experience of supplier management and achieving measurable benefits.
- Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills
The following base pay range reflects the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in

Base Pay Range: $73,000 - $112,000
