Role Summary:
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager this position is a journey level classification requiring incumbent to be fully competent to install, maintain, troubleshoot, document and repair a wide variety of industrial instrumentation, electronic monitoring, metering, controlling and signaling devices used in the production, treatment and distribution of water.

Primary Duties:

  • Employee is responsible for all project I&C work, which will include: install, calibrate, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical, digital, electro-mechanical and mechanical equipment, communications control industrial networks SCADA instrumentation and PLCs.
  • Employee installs and calibrates microprocessors based instrumentation and control system components, Develop, maintain and upgrade various real time process control computer systems, including database management, networking, programming and configuring Programmable Logic Control Systems
  • Provide guidance, training, and technical assistance to maintenance personnel and plant operators. Plan, organize, prioritize, schedule and document work tasks. Prepare detailed reports and other documents.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager and others in continuously maintaining an accurate and updated Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Works in compliance with all American Water Policies and safety requirements. Completes miscellaneous tasks as assigned by superiors or his/her designee.
  • Participates in continuing education and training.





















Minimum Requirements:




  • High School diploma or GED and or experience in related field.
  • Minimum of 20 course hours in electronic or process control including PLCs and SCADA.
  • 3-5 years as an electrician or Instrumentation tech, or equivalent year for year experience. Job requires experience with fiber-optics, SCADA and PLCs.
  • Possess and Maintain a State Driver's License.
  • Must have a through knowledge of control systems and components including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) software and hardware. The work includes the troubleshooting and repair of electrical/mechanical equipment. The incumbent is expected to often work independently due to the diverse nature of the work.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply P&ID drawings, specifications, and service manuals. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to diagnose electronic malfunctions and defects and determine parts, adjustments and repairs necessary for proper operation.
  • In addition, this position requires that the individual work closely with both maintenance staff members and plant operators to identify problem areas and make repairs to ensure the production of water.
