Senior Planner for Capital Planning

Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting application for a Senior Planner for Capital Planning in the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Senior Planner for Capital Planning will assist in creating a culture of space stewardship on campus that will align strategic space planning goals, including reducing leased space and improving utilization to compliment the campus's sustainability goals, including space reduction and no net increase which are found in the Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) for growth management.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze existing space data with FTE and Enrollment data. Provide thorough space analysis at the macro level and local level and assist stakeholders with the development of project priorities. Identify where there are successes and issues; provide recommendations. Discuss processes, mediate differences, and provide progress reports with stakeholders.
  • Assist with ongoing efforts to develop capital construction priorities for new facilities/major renovations.
  • Assist with space management committee(s) and provide input on the formulation of space policy for instructional space, research space, and non-instructional space, include flexibility in the plan for space usage, quality, scheduling, allocation, and campus growth.
  • Provide guidance and assistance for developing, communication, implementing and monitoring strategically aligned policies related to sustainability and space stewardship.
  • Facilitate and assist with management of campus-funded leasehold commitments. Advise on the budgetary impacts, maintain agreements of central support for leases, and serve as liaison with Real Estate Services and Facilities & Services to ensure the commitments made by the Office of the Provost are fully implemented.
  • Coordinate with campus stakeholders to assist with ongoing space planning efforts and help ensure the efficient use of campus resources.
  • Provide input and review of key capital construction project initiatives to ensure strategic institutional priorities are being met. Serve as liaison with Facilities & Services in all phases of project delivery to ensure the commitments made by the Office of the Provost are fully implemented.
  • Assist with development of a deferred maintenance plan.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of the space data included in the annual IVCB Statement development.
  • Meet with peer institutions and discuss current space policies. Determine what their best practices are in terms of space management policies and any lessons they've learned.
  • Pursue professional development activities to expand knowledge and maintain currency. Keep abreast of relevant regulations, tools, procedures, and developments in the field.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in facility management.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in the field of architecture, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in planning and project management related to facilities projects at a major research institution of higher education or similar setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of university, department, and academic culture at UIUC.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, and ability to organize and drive projects to timely completion.
Appointment Information:

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Salary is commensurate with experience.
