We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer to join the Scotts Miracle-Gro manufacturing network. Within the Scotts Miracle-Gro network, our Growing Media network consists of 45 plants across North America that produce branded consumer products such as mulch and soil for lawn and garden care. In addition to supporting Growing Media, this role may support the manufacturing and distribution of our Hawthorne and other Scotts Miracle-Gro products. A Process Engineer provides technical support to multiple manufacturing facilities within a select geographic region, leading focused, proactive problem solving efforts to improve manufacturing processes, throughput and reliability.

PLEASE NOTE: This position requires approximately 60-80% travel within the United States and Canada.

What you'll do in this role:

  • LEAD: Exemplify and advocate for WCCO - World Class Culture and Operations: our process standards, policies and principles for operating and managing our Supply Chain. Lead Professional Maintenance across our network. Lead change management within our plants, fostering an environment for positive adoption of improvements.
  • EXECUTE AND IMPROVE: Serve as a technical liaison for all levels of the company including production associates, maintenance associates, operations leadership, and corporate engineering. Identify common loss themes across facilities; provide and support the implementation of sustainable solutions. Champion efforts to drive out manufacturing variation by analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and leading implementation of appropriate solutions. Assist in identifying continuous improvement data tracking opportunities to meet the needs of the continuous improvement program and the overall operation. Generate measurable savings annually from continuous improvement projects. Deliver the manufacturing capability required to support product growth and demand needs. Implement optimal ways of working for our maintenance and operations teams. Empower operations workforce to own operator routines including CILR (Clean, Inspect, Lubricate, Refasten) standards, process centerlines, maintenance standards, and training material. Own the project management process from opportunity identification, scoping through project closeout. Control project costs against budget. Spearhead ideal maintenance spare parts control and organization, CMMS system use, breakdown analysis, troubleshooting systems, etc. Implement, document, expand and transfer best practices across the network and supply chain.
  • PARTNER: Partner with Regional Directors, Plant Managers, and Maintenance Leads to execute manufacturing improvement plans. Participate in development and prioritization of capital requests. Work closely with cross-functional teams to solve problems, optimize output and reduce costs. Coordinate with related departments and functions to assure appropriate information flow and understanding of overall process improvement direction. Own communication of project status and results through written and oral presentation to senior leadership and project stakeholders.
  • DEVELOP: Develop technical mastery within self and others for key manufacturing equipment (process and packaging). Develop and deliver technical training for various levels of the organization. Participate in the review and development of production line standards. Create and coach equipment documentation including: Clean, Inspect, Lube Standards, Process Centerlines, Maintenance Standards, troubleshooting guides and training material. Develop reports of Continuous Improvement activities including project plans, activities, participation and accomplishments.

What you'll need to be successful:
  • B.S. in Engineering (Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical), or related field
  • Minimum 6 years operating in a manufacturing environment with experience of driving reliability improvements
  • Demonstrated technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in the following areas:
    • Theory/functionality of manufacturing systems and unit operations
    • Continuous improvement techniques (Lean, TPM, Root Cause Analysis, Quick Changeover/SMED, Process Centerlines, Process Mapping)
    • Statistics and analytical methods, Process measurement and control
    • Change management
    • Reactive, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance

  • Current valid driver's license and ability to drive when on business travel
  • Fluent in English

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $94,400.00 - $111,100.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
