SUMMARY

The Sr. Director is a key leadership position within the Quality and Safety Institute (QSI) at Rochester Regional Health. Working under the direction of the Vice President, Patient Safety Officer, and in partnership to other senior leaders across RRH, this role supports the Quality and Safety strategic pillar to provide the highest quality of care, free from preventable harm with best in-class service at the lowest cost. Reporting to the RRH VP Patient Safety Officer, the Sr. Director of Patient Safety and Clinical Risk Management will support the RRH Quality and Safety strategic pillar to provide the highest quality care, free from preventable harm with best in-class service at the lowest cost. This role will have responsibility for the clinical patient safety and Clinical Risk Management operations of Rochester Regional Health. The Sr. Director will utilize leadership and operational expertise plus knowledge of quality and patient safety literature, theories of innovation to recommend and operationalize RRH quality and safety goals, and organize patient safety resources to mitigate clinical risks and ensure the highest possible level of safety, quality, performance and innovation.

ATTRIBUTES
  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field required. Doctorate is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare quality and patient safety (or other relevant experience), with at least 3 years in a leadership role (or other relevant experience) required.
  • Certification in quality improvement, safety, clinical risk management or equivalent (e.g., Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality - CPHQ, Lean, Certified Professional in Patient Safety - CPPS) required or must be obtained within three years of hire. (For those with a BSN; valid NYS Registered Nurse License is required.)
  • Progressive leadership experience in patient safety, clinical risk management, or quality improvement within a multi-hospital health system or large healthcare organization.
  • Strong knowledge of safety science, high reliability, quality improvement and, clinical risk management methodologies, regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., NYS, DNV, CMS).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply implementation science methodologies (Safety culture, human factors, design thinking, root cause analysis, qualitative analytics and implementing risk mitigation strategies)
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly proficient in analytical and data management and interpretation skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strategic Leadership. Develop and execute comprehensive patient safety and clinical risk management strategies aligned with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Provide strategic direction and guidance to multidisciplinary teams to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Program Development and Implementation. Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of patient safety and clinical risk management programs, policies, and procedures across all facilities within the health system. (e.g. CUSP, Safety Culture Assessment). Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to integrate patient safety and risk management principles into clinical workflows, processes, and systems.
  • Incident Response and Investigation. Oversee the design and operational use of the event reporting system. Oversee the investigation and analysis of patient safety incidents, adverse events, and clinical risks, utilizing root cause analysis methodologies to identify contributing factors and opportunities for improvement. Develop and implement proactive strategies to prevent future occurrences and enhance patient safety outcomes.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and guidelines related to patient safety, clinical risk management, and quality improvement. Serve as a subject matter expert on patient safety and risk management issues during regulatory surveys, audits, and accreditation visits.
  • Education and Training. Develop and deliver educational programs, training sessions, and resources to enhance awareness of patient safety principles, risk mitigation strategies, and incident reporting processes among staff, clinicians, and leadership. Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement by promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge sharing, and evidence-based practices.
  • Data Analytics and Performance Monitoring. Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to monitor patient safety outcomes, identify trends, and benchmark performance against industry standards and internal targets. Provide regular reports and presentations to senior leadership and governing bodies on patient safety initiatives, risk management activities, and quality improvement efforts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PAY RANGE: $120,000.00 - $170,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
