Under the general direction of the Associate Director for Post-Award Services, this position supports the post-award responsibilities of a full service idea-to-archive life cycle of the assigned sponsored programs/research portfolio. Working closely with individual investigators and project directors, the position is responsible for financial management activities from account set-up expenditure review and approval, financial reporting, and close-out activities. The position also prefers vast knowledge with federal grants and sponsors and advanced expertise in financial and research administration systems, which will help to optimize unit operations and reporting functions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Interacts frequently with project investigators/directors to oversee financial award management of an assigned portfolio of grants and contracts, including those with advanced complexity. Performs and/or reviews account setups, budget details and sponsor requirements; monitors financial activity throughout the project lifecycle to ensure compliance with University and sponsor policies including the Uniform Guidance, regarding allowable costs, cost sharing, budget constraints, effort commitments, subcontracts, sponsor invoicing, no-cost extensions and close-out activities.
  • Prepares, reviews, and submits financial reports to sponsors, through various mechanisms including email reports and sponsor web-based portals such as Research.gov ERA Commons, GrantSolutions, etc..
  • Coordinates accounting and reporting activities for subcontracts issued from University's prime awards including review and oversight of the contract, purchase order set-up, approval of invoices submitted by the subcontractor, close-out reports, etc..
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of Oracle Financials (StraTUs) and Kuali to prepare reports that facilitate management of the Office of Sponsored Programs & Research (OSPR) post-award operations as well as fulfilling OSPR-required reporting (e.g. NSF HERD survey, USM reporting, other TU reports).
  • Contributes to presentations for faculty and students on sound stewardship of funding, best practices in grants and compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations & policies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three years of related work experience in a sponsored programs office or department.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal regulations governing grants and contracts.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Grant management/financial systems such as PeopleSoft, Kuali Research and or Oracle Financials.

Salary and Benefits
