Position Overview

The Novelis Corporate EHS team is seeking a Sr. Manager, EHS. The person in this role will report to the Vice President of EHS. The ideal candidate will provide overall direction for all matters related to safety for all locations and operations globally within Novelis. The incumbent will develop and manage the safety process for the dissemination of safety information to all employees and assist in the effective facilitation of programs and procedures to ensure the prevention of incidents and Injury/Illness.
Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Provides specific subject matter expertise, consulting and leadership, to the business and corporate functions in the areas of operational risk management, including risk assessment, related procedures, compliance program, incident management and interface with main stakeholders. Acts as lead advisor to top management and business partners on advanced technical matters.
  • Demonstrates extensive EHS knowledge in the field of specialization or multiple disciplines to the successful completion of complex assignments. Successfully serves as point of authority and/or source of technical/scientific knowledge for area of expertise. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of organization's business practices, plant operations and critical EHS issues and, contributes to problem resolution of those.
  • Expert in relevant subject matter legislation, governmental regulations, industry standards and codes and in technical standards, consensus standards, best practices (U.S. and international). Provides sound management and functional EHS advice to the organization and EHS community and other relevant functions and line organization.
  • Develop and lead implementation of subject matter EHS and risk management strategies with region leadership to drive business performance, meet Novelis EHS programs, and assure regulatory and legal EHS compliance.
  • Experience in implementing EHS management Systems (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001).
  • Strong occupational safety background with focus on life critical processes and programs (e.g., Cranes & Lifting, Electrical/LOTO, Machine Guarding, Fall Protection, Mobile Equipment & Pedestrian Safety, Confined Space, Fire Protection, Emergency Response).
  • Participate and/or lead audits in Audit Program and EHS Management System Audits.
  • Manage technical safety training program, including needs analysis, performance measures, documentation, and training systems.
  • Develop, update and deliver training and materials for Operational Risk Management, including but not limited to Risk Assessments, Safety Absolutes, Serious Injuries & Fatalities Prevention, Incident investigation, new procedures and performance standards, etc across functions and regions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Science or in other EHS Science or related discipline
  • Certification in professional EHS field (e.g., CSP, CIH)
  • Minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as lead/participate on teams and work in a matrix environment.
  • Proven experience as a self-starter, who effectively manages multiple tasks, achieves results with minimal supervision and possesses excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Creativity, Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Ability to Influence, Persistence, Practicality, Ability to Communicate to all Levels and cultures, Enthusiasm/Passion
  • Ability to understand customers need both internal and external and translate that understanding into action.
  • Ability to work and achieve success in a matrix environment keeping key stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Travel required to locations and meetings is 60%
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in EHS related program or discipline preferred
  • Experience in training, learning and development in a multiple location environment
  • Experience in large, multi-national industrial manufacturing corporations
  • Engineering Project Management experience
  • Experience in Human & Organizational Performance and Learning Organization concepts
  • Product Safety experience
