Job Description:


Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.

Germanna Community College is currently seeking a Student Life & Leadership Specialist. The Specialist will provide high quality, accessible learning opportunities and related services to the community. The mission of Student Services department is to promote student engagement, retention, and learning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Student Government Association's (SGA) Inter-Club Council (ICC). Provide regular and ongoing advisement, coaching, and mentorship to ICC student leaders and SGA Executive Board members.
  • Serve as the primary lead of Germanna's signature program, Student Clubs & Organizations.
  • Promote the creation and development of new student clubs and organizations and help identify new student club advisors among existing full-time campus personnel. Create, distribute, revise, and maintain student club and organization and ICC resources (e.g., Student Club & Organization Handbook, forms, etc.) for student club leaders, members, and advisors. Develop, facilitate, and evaluate regular and ongoing Student Club & Organization training sessions, workshops, and roundtables for all student club leaders and advisors.
  • Create, implement, facilitate, and evaluate signature events at all college locations and online. Signature events include but are not limited to Welcome Days, Fall Festival, Student Club & Organization Fairs, Winter and Spring Formals, Blood Drives, Movie Nights, Guest Speakers/Lecturers, Game Shows, Field Trips, Civic Engagement, Voter Registration Drives, Arts and Culture Performances, etc.
  • Develop student leaders through mentorship programs and training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Care Team to develop programming that promotes student health and well-being and educates students on the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Track, evaluate, and report student engagement and involvement data using current technologies.
  • Partner with the Student Life & Leadership Coordinator on all signature events.
  • Serve as the technical lead for Germanna's TurboVote webpage and platform. Serve as the primary lead for Germanna's Civic Engagement & Voter Empowerment program and college-wide work group.

Special Assignments:

KSA's/Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, financial software, event software, event planning, management, and evaluation; budget management, photography and/or videography, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in fostering student development, student leadership development, student engagement, student and faculty advising, conflict resolution, organizational development, civic engagement (aka Civic Education or Civic Learning), and service learning
  • Experience with or willingness to learn AI tools.
