Interim Prospecting & Grants Manager

Location:US Remote Based

Reports to: VP, Business Development

Type: Temporary (June 15,2022 – January 31, 2023)

Pay Grade: 8

Overview: Functioning within CWS’ Business Development unit, this FTE position provides short-term grants management and institutional fundraising support for three program units: Advocacy and Policy, Domestic Disaster Response, and Fiscally Sponsored Agencies (advocacy and policy specific). The position will work closely with program units and finance, meeting virtually on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to ensure alignment on priorities and deadlines. Reporting to the Vice President, Business Development. The position will collaborate with Business Development Team members on institutional fundraising and grant management strategies and processes. The team structure and job scope may change with strategic development of the Unit. The scope of responsibilities are as follows:

1. Active award management:The position will manage 30-35 active awards, representing ~$3.5 million in funding (and growing) and 15-20 funders. The position is responsible for:

  • Coordinating keyfunderdeadlines within each program unit
  • Anticipating and requestingaward extensionsandamendments
  • Anticipating and requesting grant renewals based on grant end dates
  • Interpreting grant agreements and corresponding requirements
  • Capturing documentation and requirement outputs in shared systems
  • Facilitating meaningful communication and recognition efforts with active funders
  • Drafting and editing content relevant to funder requirements
  • Supporting~20report submissionsthrough funder portals and via email
  • Ensuring that funder templates and guidelines are adhered to in submissions
2.Prospecting a pipeline of funders:The position will prospect a well-aligned pipeline of funders and submit applications in a timely manner. Responsibilities include:
  • Identifying strong matches between program unit concepts and new funders
  • Coordinating key funder deadlines within each program unit
  • Supporting the submission of 6 concept notes or proposals to matched funders, with a combined ask total of >$800,000
  • Facilitating3-5renewal applicationsubmissionsfrom current funders
  • Ensuring that funder templates, guidelines and portal instructions are adhered to

3. Supporting program unit events:The position will assist in bringing the Business Development Unit’s expertise to 2-3 national conferences and events to ensure that CWS is visible to institutional funders. Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinating with attending staff onfunder-specifictalking points
  • Highlighting event milestones to relevant CWS funders/prospects (i.e.if CWS isahonoree or panelist at the event)
  • Supporting post-event follow-up for aligned funders
Education:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field is required. Minimum 3 years' experience in the nonprofit sector with a concentration in immigrant rights is preferred.

Experience & Competencies:
  • The candidate needs a minimum of three years of nonprofit experience with an emphasis in immigrants’ rights work and/or grant writing.
  • The candidate must have business development experience, including proposal writing (including budgeting), grants administration including (reporting to donors), and donor engagement.
  • Knows “broad stroke” information about CWS programs and can articulate CWS programs. Individuals must be culturally sensitive and understand the importance of gender-inclusiveness and intersectionality. Knowledge of global migration issues, immigration policy, refugee resettlement, and immigrant justice are strongly preferred.
  • The candidate must have solid computer skills and proficiency with data entry in database programs, ideally Salesforce or similar donor databases.
  • The candidate must be energetic, positive, have a “can-do” attitude, and a high degree of initiative. Must be organized, able to coordinate logistics with multiple teammates, and able to manage a large workload while meeting deadlines with adept project management skills. Candidate should be flexible and have excellent attention to detail.
  • This person needs strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively. Must demonstrate “transparency of information” by articulating program strategies, priorities, standards, and expectations to stakeholders. Communicate and model CWS’ mission, values, and priorities to stakeholders.
  • Candidate must be a team player as well as individual contributor, as the will be part of the team guiding the Business Development goals of the organization.
