Job Description:
Do you have any experience with working on vehicles? Are you a team player? If this is you, then look no further! The Department of Administrative Services - Transportation Service Bureau is looking for a Automotive Technician to join their team. As a Automotive Technician you will, perform general repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of motor vehicles. You will also perform skilled technical work in the diagnosis, and the repair of motor vehicles on-board computer systems. Including fuel, ignition, emission, brakes, suspension, HVAC, and other advanced electronic systems.

This position will perform automotive repair and maintenance (i.e., brakes, suspension, steering, heating and air conditioning, engine and transmission components), automotive diagnostics utilizing advanced test equipment. Performs applicable repairs and replacement of components as required. Provides leadership and direction to automotive mechanics on complex repairs and computer-controlled systems. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A high school coursework/training in automotive technology and experience in automotive mechanics.

Preferred Qualifications: Associates Degree in Automotive Technology. A.S.E. Certified Master Automotive Technician or Vehicle Manufactures equivalent.

Other: Certification as an A.S.E. Certified Automotive Technician is required for entry into positions in this classification. Must be certified under the provisions of Section 609 of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 within one year of employment. Maintenance of certifications is a condition of employment.

Regular and reliable attendance is required. This position requires driving as such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license.

Knowledge of: diagnostic procedures and test equipment; maintenance, repair, and service of gasoline-powered motor vehicles as well as Fuel Flexible and Alternative Fueled Motor Vehicles; complex computer-controlled systems. Use of hand tools and high-tech specialized test equipment (i.e., computer scanner, engine analyzers, four-wheel alignment machines, air conditioning machines). Operation of equipment and breakdown prevention and all other areas of motor vehicle repair. Ability to: provide leadership and direction, and guide the work of others; diagnose and troubleshoot problems in motor vehicles.

Skill in: the operation of high-tech diagnostic test equipment and general computer use.
