Job Overview:

The Clinical Accessioning Representative plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of information provided by our clients for each standard clinical sample received. This position serves as the starting point for the workflows of several other departments, and the representative must maintain high levels of detail and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Data Entry: Enter all required information supplied by clients into various databases accurately, ensuring each order is correctly established for downstream workflows. Tasks include applying appropriate holds to testing, attaching paperwork to the correct patient record, and documenting issues with the specimen or paperwork.
• Specimen Integrity: Ensure labels on the specimens match the paperwork provided and that internally generated accession numbers are affixed to the correct specimen.
• Client and Patient Communication: Contact clients and/or patients to confirm missing information that needs verification, and maintain personal and department follow-up work lists.
• Interdepartmental Communication: Communicate with and notify other departments about specific cases when necessary.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all laboratory safety requirements, including wearing appropriate PPE (coat and gloves).

Technical Competencies:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work comfortably and efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
• Fast and accurate typing ability with great attention to detail.
• Strong critical thinking skills and adaptability to different situations.
• Capability to sit and use a computer for most of the workday and regularly lift up to 10 pounds.
